Dazzling dozen: the 12 top tech companies of 2018

The recent announcement of new Future Fifty companies from Tech City UK prompted Condeco to analyse 12 of the most promising firms in 2018

Tech City UK launched a ‘Future Fifty’ programme which annually recognises the UK’s most promising businesses to accelerate their growth. New members of Future Fifty were recently announced for 2018, bringing the total membership, including alumni, up to 126.

Future Fifty members have collectively created 27,000 jobs in 59 offices across the world, and have raised more than US $5.5 billion in the past five years. Condeco has rounded up its top 12 companies from the programme for 2018.

Onfido – an identity verification platform that helps over one thousand companies ensure their customers are who they claim to be. Founded by three Oxford alumni, Onfido received more than US $60 million from top name investors like Microsoft and Salesforce, with a customer base that includes ZipCar and Counchsurfing.

ROLI – a music technology company that makes a modular music creation system that opens up new possibilities for musical expression. These range from sound design tools for composers to free apps for learners.

EPOS – point-of-scale software and hardware provider that automates small business banking. Founded in 2011, EPOS enables businesses to leverage both cloud computing and advanced technology to enhance business output, collecting over 30,000 customer success stories along the way.

Thread – an e-commerce company based in East London. It uses human stylists and machine learning to help men dress well without going shopping. They are soon expanding into female clothing.

LoveCrafts – online community and marketplace for the crafts sector that was launched in 2012 by three individuals. It is an online community that helps creators ‘connect, share and create’ in the digital age.

ClearScore – FinTech business launched in mid-2015. It provides a free access to credit scores and reports to over five million users. In November 2015 the company won Innovator of the Year at the Growing Businesses Awards, as well as three other awards for innovation.

Memrise – a language learning app that helps you learn langauges with games, humorous chatbots and native speaker videos through 200 courses developed by leading linguists. Memrise won Best App at the Google Play Awards in 2017.

Firefly Learning – an online platform that brings together teachers, students and parents with the ethos of ‘more time to teach, and more ways to learn’.

EDITED – helping fashion retailers since 2009 market the right product at the right price and the right time. It gives the most important people in those businesses the information they need to trade faster and retail based on market statistics.

Click Travel – using technology to reduce the cost and complexity of business travel management. It offers reporting and analytics, credit accounts and single invoices, supplier management, policy compliance, and travel security.

Big Change Apps – digital platform to plan, manage, schedule and track a mobile workforce. The company specialises in call handling and CRM, planning scheduling and dispatch, mobile workflow, live tracking, health and safety, and reporting and performance.

Condeco Software – perceived as the only vendor of workspace management technology and solutions which specialises in feature-rich, dedicated solutions for scheduling rooms and desks, and covering full integration with Microsoft Exchange and Google Calendar.
